ARF Launches Diversity Drive
In New York, the ARF (Advertising Research Foundation) has set up a charitable program called 'ARF WIDE: Workforce Initiative for Diversity and Excellence', aiming to improve the diversity of the workforce across the research/analytics, media and advertising industries.
Founded more than 80 years ago, the ARF uses industry-level research to help its 400 members enhance their advertising. The new initiative will use donations to provide scholarships to economically disadvantaged college and junior college students interested in joining the research / analytics sector. Eligible students include those from minority groups, low-income families, disadvantaged urban, suburban or rural districts, and those who are first-generation college students.
For ARF WIDE scholars, the program will provide apprenticeships, internships and mentorships in ARF-affiliated companies; supplemental training in its disciplines through the ARF Education Initiative; and various networking opportunities with fellow scholars and members of other ARF programs such as Young Pros and Women in Analytics. Companies, foundations and individuals can contribute financially to ARF WIDE through name-endowed scholarships and individual donations; and The Scott McDonald Challenge Grant will match dollar-for-dollar donations up to $150k for contributions made before Labor Day. In addition, ARF WIDE will also be a beneficiary of funds raised by the 2020 ARF David Ogilvy Awards; with companies contributing more than $25k recognized at the awards ceremony.
Scott McDonald, President and CEO of the ARF, comments: 'As recent events have made clear, our industry needs to grow and benefit from the contributions of a more diverse workforce. But the economic challenges we are facing make that goal even more important for young people from poor backgrounds. This program is designed to help ease some of those burdens and create greater opportunity'.
