$135m for Data Curation Firm Dremio
Data curation software firm Dremio has raised $135m in a Series D round of funding, to expand its engineering centers of excellence around the globe and invest in educating and enabling a community of data lake practitioners.
Santa Clara, CA-based Dremio offers a virtualization toolkit used to integrate relational databases in Hadoop, NoSQL and other formats, allowing interrogation via SQL queries to gain business intelligence. The firm's searchable catalogue of physical and virtual datasets gives users transparency into how data is being transformed and combined; and its cloud-based tools are available in an open-source Community edition or a commercial Enterprise edition.
New funding has been led by Sapphire Ventures, with participation from existing investors Insight Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Norwest Venture Partners, Redpoint Ventures and Cisco Investments. It comes just nine months after a $70m round led by Insight Partners and brings the company's valuation to $1 billion. Dremio CEO Billy Bosworth (pictured) comments: 'Dremio's technology fundamentally simplifies workflows, allowing analytics directly on your full data set, stored in industry-standard open formats, residing in native cloud storage. We are pleased to have Sapphire Ventures on the investor team to help make that possible'.
