Bretcha (pictured) takes up the position after thirteen years at online opinion and behavioral data specialist Netquest, where he initially served as MD, Iberia, and was latterly International Director. Earlier, he worked for Synovate as Shopper & Retail Expert, and Kantar as Retail Services Director, before which, he held senior marketing roles at supermarket groups Auchan and Carrefour Spain.
In addition, Bretcha holds a number of Board-level roles, including that of a member of the Advisory Board of neuroscience platform MindProber. He has been involved with ESOMAR for many years, was an elected Council member for two consecutive terms, from 2015 through 2018, then in January 2019, he was elected as ESOMAR President, and he most recently served as President Ex-Officio.
Commenting on the news, ESOMAR President Kristin Luck said: 'Joaquim's deep internal knowledge of ESOMAR as a Council member and past-President, plus his amazing depth of experience in the global market research industry, will help us continue to meet the changing needs of our member base around the world. I would also like to extend Council's thanks to outgoing interim Director General, Pravin Shekar, for his guidance and steady hand over the past three months, as we navigated a number of leadership changes.'
