Media Research Users Council India Names New Chair
The Board of not-for-profit the Media Research Users Council India (MRUCI) has elected Shailesh Gupta as Chairperson and Shashank Srivastava as Vice Chair.
MRUCI conducts research into audiences for media including newspapers, television, radio and outdoor ad hoardings. Its continuous print / multi-media readership and consumer habits survey, the Indian Readership Survey (IRS) resulted from the merger of the country's two main print readership studies: the National Readership Survey (NRS) conducted by the National Readership Studies Council, and its own original Indian Readership Survey (IRS).
Gupta (pictured) is MD of Jagran Prakashan, which prints and publishes newspapers, magazines, journals and other media. During his more than 30 years in the media industry, he has held various positions, including that of President of The Indian Newspaper Society (INS) and Chairman of the Council of Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC). Srivastava is currently Executive Director, Sales and Marketing at Maruti Suzuki India, the Indian subsidiary of Japanese automaker Suzuki Motor Corporation.
In his new role, Gupta replaces Shashi Sinha, CEO India at Mediabrands, who served as MRUCI's Chairperson for two consecutive terms - from 2021-2022 and 2022-2023. In a statement, Gupta said: 'I'd like to thank Shashi Sinha for leading MRUCI and taking several strides forward in reviving the IRS. It will be my endeavour to help create a robust third party research that helps all constituents and collectively takes the industry forward'.
