Tech Advisor Futurum Buys Business Podcast Firm

US tech analyst and research firm The Futurum Group has acquired San Francisco-based media company the Business Podcast Network (BPN).

Austin, Texas-based Futurum is led by CEO Daniel Newman and helps clients anticipate and understand shifts in their industries - it then follows through by helping them build strategies to take advantage of this intelligence. The firm works in twelve major technology sectors: AI & data analytics, cloud, telecom, policy, consumer electronics, enterprise applications, security, semiconductors, workplace collaboration, sustainability, and CX.

BPN is a venture-backed media startup with operations in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and Portland, running more than 200 shows that deliver business news for business people. It is know in particular for its flagship show, 'The Drill Down with Cory Johnson', which has featured interviews with more than 1,000 CEOs in fields such as banking, biotech, cybersecurity, gaming, healthcare, industrials, real estate, retail, and oil and gas.

With the deal, BPN founder and CEO Cory Johnson will join Futurum as Chief Market Strategist. A former hedge fund portfolio manager and active investor, his career includes work at Kingsford Capital, Cannell Capital Management and the Forensic Research Group; and he also worked as an anchor, reporter, and bureau chief for Bloomberg, CNBC and TheStreet.com. He will now oversee the expansion of Futurum's thought leadership and research offerings, particularly within technology investing.

The buy, which will expand Futurum Group's existing media, is its third this year. It acquired B2B research, media and advisory business Dash Network in January; and B2B insight and data-backed marketing services company Visible Impact, in May.
