NMR Legal Action Dismissed
Nielsen Media Research and Univision Communications, Inc, have announced that they have dropped litigation against each other, relating to the use of Local People Meters (LPMs).
Univision, a leading Spanish-language media company, has dismissed litigation aimed at halting Nielsen's use of the LPM service in Los Angeles, while Nielsen has withdrawn its motion against Univision under California's Strategic Litigation Against Public Participation (SLAPP) statute.
LPMs began operating in Los Angeles on July 8 this year, 2004. The city is one of three, along with New York and Chicago, where the system has been conditionally accredited by independent auditor The Media Rating Council, while the Boston LPM has been fully accredited. Nielsen plans to introduce LPMs in Philadelphia, Washington, DC, Dallas, Detroit and Atlanta in 2005.
