Knowledge management solutions provider Upword has secured $3m in pre-seed funding and has launched an AI-based 'research companion' tool for use by both commercial and academic researchers.

Roee BarakThe tool combines an AI-managed Content Library, including auto-tagging and vectorizing technologies to enhance document organization and accessibility, with an AI Co-pilot feature, offering personalized suggestions and adaptive support throughout the research process. Another feature to be added shortly, Upword Fetch, will harness AI search engines and content recommendation engines to recommend relevant materials from both internal and web-based sources. During its beta phase, the firm says the tool has been trialled by more than 30,000 users and already boasts 1,000 paying customers.

Fund will be used to expand market reach and advance product development. Investors include Telefonica (Wayra X), Go Ahead Ventures and Goodwater Capital.

Founder and CEO Roee Barak (pictured), quoted on www.finsmes.com , comments: 'The rigorous, step-by-step methodology that defines research has made AI chatbots overwhelming and often inconvenient. While studying in law school, my vision was to build productivity tools that kept me in control, accommodating the need for nuance and rigor in scholarly work while providing the benefits of generative AI. Upword was the result. Now, students, academics, and professionals across many industries have access to a tool that delivers on the promise of GenAI'.
