Revenue Dip for Xperi / TiVo

Xperi, the owner of television tech and measurement pioneer TiVo, has announced results for the quarter ended June 30th, with revenue down 5.7% to $119.6m, but net loss also reduced from $38.4m to $30.3m.

Jon KirchnerAlmost five years ago, entertainment technology and TV data provider TiVo merged with audio, imaging and computing technology products firm Xperi Corp. in a $3bn all-stock deal. The merged firm took the name Xperi but the TiVo brand is widely used for products and services.

Xperi expects full-year revenue in the range of $500m to $530m, and points to significant developments over the past few months in a number of its wide-ranging business activities. Smart TVs 'Powered by TiVo' are now available across fifteen European countries; the firm's DTS AutoStage software is now deployed in more than seven million vehicles globally, up from six million three months ago; and as of June 30th it boasts more than 2.25 million video-over-broadband subscriber households, continuing consecutive quarters of double-digit year-on-year growth. DTS AutoStage offers radio broadcasters insights into how listeners are engaging with their content from their cars, and in May TiVo launched a cross-screen ad platform called TiVo One, providing forecasting, targeting and measurement to optimize campaigns delivered 'in the home and the car'.

'Our Q2 progress is a clear example of the positive effects of our continued business transformation efforts' comments CEO Jon Kirchner (pictured). 'We delivered solid financial results with improved profitability while continuing to execute on our strategic growth initiatives. Our growing TiVo OS and video-over-broadband footprint is setting the stage for future monetisation, and we expect this will be a core element of our long-term revenue growth and margin expansion'.
