Polish Acquisition Boosts Scandit's Shelf Audit Offer

In Zürich, Switzerland, smart data capture firm Scandit has announced the acquisition of shelf audit automation assets including fixed camera technology solutions for the retail industry, from Polish company MarketLab. Financial terms were not disclosed, but MarketLab's team will join Scandit.

Its tech allows devices such as smartphones, handheld computers, drones, digital eyewear, robots and fixed cameras to capture data rapidly and intelligently from physical items' barcodes, text and IDs, as well as the objects themselves. The company, which raised $150m in Series D funding in 2022, promises accurate scans 'in any challenging lighting, at angles, [from] damaged labels or across multiple codes', and partners with its clients throughout the process of setting up, testing and integrating its systems, as well as applying the data gathered.

Scandit says MarketLab's expertise in fixed camera solutions complements its own ShelfView mobile capture approach, to create a hybrid solution which will give retailers data and insights on on-shelf availability, planogram compliance, pricing and other key issues. In addition to optimising stock levels and store conditions, the combination promises AI-enabled notifications to improve store key performance indicators and flag issues in near-real time to store associates and management. Scandit says it also sees future potential in fixed camera deployments in other environments such as warehousing where it will help automate logistics workflows.
