Acquisition for Commodities and Energy Analyst ZEMA

Canada-based ZEMA Global Data Corporation, which provides data and analytics for the commodity and energy sectors, has announced plans to acquire the Commodity Data business of investment intelligence firm Morningstar.

Acquisition for Commodities and Energy Analyst ZEMAHeadquartered in Chicago, Morningstar provides independent investment insights across four continents, for clients including individual and institutional investors in public and private capital markets, financial advisors and wealth managers, asset managers and retirement plan providers / sponsors. Its analysis covers managed investment products, publicly listed companies, private capital markets, debt securities and real-time global market data - and it also offers investment management services, through subsidiaries which are present in 32 countries.

ZEMA, which was previously known as ZE PowerGroup, provides enterprise data management and analytics for clients including supply chain-intensive corporates, independent traders, energy and physical commodities. The business recently received a significant growth equity investment from FTV Capital, whose execs Robert Anderson (Partner) and Brent Fierro (Principal) are both Board Members of ZEMA - and appointed Andrea Remyn Stone as Chief Executive.

The acquisition extends the company's reach into financial markets, and adds new capabilities such as real-time data and a multi-tenant public cloud distribution platform. The enlarged business will serve a diverse portfolio of more than 200 enterprises. The transaction, whose financial terms were not disclosed, is expected to close in the next few days.

Stone says the acquisition 'marks a significant milestone in our evolution as we look to add complementary capabilities to meet the growing demand for increasingly complex data and analytics accelerated by the global energy transition. Morningstar Commodity Data will bring a new and dynamic customer base in financial services as well as expertise with real-time data to ZEMA, providing an opportunity for us to expand our offering and offer enhanced services to better serve an expanded client base'.
