Bennewies Rejoins Angus Reid as Chairman

Canadian research firm Angus Reid Group has appointed former Ipsos Canada CEO Gary Bennewies as Chairman of the Board, replacing Angus Reid himself who will remain Chief Executive and increase his focus on marketing and product development.

Gary BennewiesReid is perhaps Canada's best-known researcher and his companies have been high profile providers of market and opinion research across North America for more than four decades. The Group's expertise spans financial services, technology, media, government and other sectors, and ranges from certified sample and custom research design to advanced analytics.

Bennewies (pictured) joined consumer research agency Angus Reid Group in 1985 and helped it grow into the largest research firm in Canada, before its sale to Ipsos in 2000 - it then became known as Ipsos-Reid. He twice served as Country Manager for Canada, and in between as Ipsos' Chief Talent Officer. As CEO of Ipsos Canada he contributed to the integration of Ipsos Reid, NPD, Tandemar, Camelford Graham and other companies, and he has served as Chair of the Canadian Research Insights Council. He announced his retirement from the Ipsos Canada CEO role two years ago.

Reid will remain on the Board of Directors and as CEO, doubling down now on marketing and product development while continuing to drive the company's overall vision. 'I've known Angus for over 30 years' says Bennewies, 'and as my obligations to Ipsos Canada have wound down I welcomed the opportunity to work alongside him again. Based on our history I'm confident that together we can take the business to even greater heights'. Reid returns the complements: 'Having Gary take on the role of Chairman frees me up to focus more on building out our marketing efforts and accelerating product development. His leadership at the Board level will help us push forward in key areas'.
