New Smart Eye Tech Taps Facial Recognition
Swedish technology firm Smart Eye, the parent of Affectiva and iMotions, has released a new version of its advanced eye tracking solution, with updates including automatic profile selection and refined user recognition, enhancing ease of use and data integrity.
The company acquired US-based facial expression technology firm Affectiva and Danish emotional response software measurement developer iMotions in 2021 for a total of around $120m. Smart Eye Pro 13's new profile management system automatically detects when a new test subject enters the tracking area, and based on their facial characteristics selects the individual's unique numerical profile ID to ensure sessions run with the proper gaze calibration. The firm says this eliminates the need for manual profile adjustments, cutting down on manual work and in turn reducing the potential for errors.
The new system also boasts ongoing improvements in gaze accuracy and robustness, and advancements in pupil tracking, as well as detecting potentially barriers to accurate measurement including sunglasses and face masks.
Solmaz Shahmehr, the company's EVP Automotive and Applied AI comments: 'Smart Eye Pro 13 represents a paradigm shift in eye tracking technology by automating profile management and improving data quality. This release not only simplifies the process for researchers but also marks an important step toward achieving an even more autonomous system'.
