DisplaySearch Opens in China
Flat panel display (FPD) research specialist DisplaySearch has established two Chinese offices, in Hong Kong and nearby Shenzhen. Two analysts have been hired to lead the Chinese operation: David Barnes joins from LG.Philips LCD (LPL), and Bing Zhang from TV and mobile phone-maker Konka.
President and CEO Ross Young says the company is thrilled to have a direct presence in China and two experienced analysts to lead it. 'China is playing a critical role in most display-based markets, and these new hires enhance our ability to cover trends in China, the role of Chinese manufacturers and the needs of the financial community based in Hong Kong. DisplaySearch already tracks brand market share in China for LCD monitors, CRT monitors, LCD TVs, PDP TVs, RPTVs, CRT TVs and TFT LCDs and will soon add a growing number of additional products and markets'.
Barnes, who becomes VP of Strategic Analysis, has thirty years experience managing and advising electronics manufacturers. At Philips he advised senior management on industry structure, opportunity and risk, and authored more than $10bn of funded capital plans for the IPO. Earlier he was a Product Manager at Photon Dynamics. He has worked in Asia for many years and now lives in Hong Kong.
Bing Zhang joins as Director of China Market Research. In his five years at Konka he held positions including sales channel management, marketing research and supply chain management. He graduated from Sichuan University in China with degrees in Polymer Science and Engineering and in Business Administration.
Shenzhen is in the Guangdong Province of China, on the border with Hong Kong. DisplaySearch also opened an office in San Jose earlier this year.
