WPP Thanks Staff for Growth
WPP, parent company of Millward Brown, Research International, The Kantar Group and The Henley Centre among many other companies worldwide, has reported robust revenues for the first five months of the year. Noting that revenue per head had increased, WPP's Chairman Philip Lader thanked the company's 84,000 staff worldwide for their 'outstanding efforts'.
At yesterday's AGM in London, Lader announced that the firm's revenues were up more than 21% (6% on a like-for-like basis), ahead of the 14.3% objective. Companies in the group's insight and consultancy sector, which includes the above research companies, have achieved a 16% revenue growth, compared with 14% for public relations and public affairs companies, and 25% for the advertising and media management sector.
Geographically, revenue growth was strongest (25%) in Asia Pacific, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. Lader predicted further growth in developing markets, stating that, by 2015, Brazil, Russia, India and China would account for 25% of WPP revenue, up from the current 5%.
This year has also seen an increase in revenue per head, as revenues are growing faster than headcounts. Lader acknowledged that the company owed its success to the talents and efforts of its staff, telling the meeting: 'Every piece of work derives from thousands of hours of experience and training - and that essential human spark that brings to life the simplest project.'
