Google Referrals Hit All-Time High

Google's US search referral share - the percentage of searchers it sends to other sites - hit an all-time high of 52% in the US, and reached 73% in the UK, 80% in Australia, and more than 91% in Germany. However, analysts WebSideStory are advising companies engaged in online marketing to use other tools alongside Google.

WebSideStory, which analyzes more than 30 billion page views for its customers each month, says Google's US search referral percentage has risen from just 12% in 2001 to 52% this June. Over the same period, Yahoo!'s share has fallen from 38% to 25%.

'Google has become a must-use source for any serious online marketing operation,' says WebSideStory CEO Jeff Lunsford. However, he goes on to say: 'While some smaller businesses are embracing Google as their sole online acquisition source, we are advising our customers to employ a multi-source approach. We are still seeing powerful ROI from campaigns run through Yahoo! and other pay-per-click networks, banner networks, affiliate networks, shopping engines and e-mail service providers.'
