Abt Hires World Bank Director

US public policy research firm Abt Associates has appointed Dr Tessie San Martin, previously Director of the Operations Group at the World Bank's Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), as its new VP for International Development.

Dr San Martin will work as deputy to the Group VP for International Development Janet Ballantyne, covering new business and program development.

In her most recent role, she was responsible for MIGA's political risk insurance and technical assistance programs. She managed a team of 45, and was responsible for the development of the Agency's first strategic framework. Prior to this, she was a partner in IBM Consulting Services (formerly Price Waterhouse Coopers Consulting), where she was responsible for building a $100m portfolio across nearly 50 countries. Previously she has been adjunct professor at Florida International University, President of a consulting company in Washington, and Senior Faculty Advisor for a management institute in the Dominican Republic.

She holds a PhD. in political economy from Harvard and a Master's in Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.

Abt conducts research on a range of social and economic policy issues and business problems.
