New Research Firm to Focus on IT Security

Michigan-based IT security industry expert Richard Stiennon is forming a market research firm to be known as IT-Harvest. In addition to published reports, the company will maintain a knowledge base of the entire IT security industry.

Stiennon is a former VP of Threat Research for Webroot Software and spent time as a security industry analyst at Gartner Inc. He won Gartner's Thought Leadership award for 2003 and in 2004 was named as one of the '50 Most Powerful People in Networking' by Network World Magazine.

Stiennon says there are over 450 IT research firms generating a little over $2 billion in annual revenue, but his company will specialise in a rapidly growing sub-sector: 'The business of creating products and services to counter hacking, cyber crime, and information warfare has grown to include over one thousand companies... IT-Harvest has been formed to follow the IT security space and add structure to understanding it completely.'

Industry figures leant their support for the launch, Gene Hodges, CEO of San Diego, CA- based Websense, Inc. calling it 'an exciting development... Richard has had a lasting impact on the security industry as we know it', while Marc Willebeek-LeMair, CTO of Marlborough, MA-based 3Com, Inc., says Stiennon's 'insights and advice were instrumental in leading the market shift from reactive IDS to pro-active Intrusion Prevention'.

IT-Harvest is based in Birmingham, MI, USA and its knowledgebase of security industry companies will be available to subscribers at www.it-harvest.com .
