VP Research for New TV Network
The CW, the US' new fifth broadcast television network which is scheduled to launch in the Fall of 2006, has appointed Eric Cardinal as its Senior Vice President, Research. Cardinal spent 20 years at NBC before joining UPN in 1999.
The CW is a joint venture between Warner Bros. Entertainment and CBS Corporation. Cardinal will oversee all research for the network, including planning, development and analysis for all audience, program, market and technical research and will report to Dawn Ostroff, President, Entertainment.
Cardinal held the same title, Senior VP Research, at UPN. He joined NBC in 1979 as an Analyst in its New York research department, and rose to Director, News Audience Research before relocating to Burbank, CA, in 1989. Here he became VP, Program Research, NBC Entertainment, a position he held for ten years.
He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Duke University and a Master of Arts degree in psychology from Columbia University.
Ostroff described Cardinal as 'one of the most well-respected and astute research executives in our industry', adding: 'His valuable insight and keen understanding of audience behavior and viewing patterns will be of the highest importance as we create the ultimate entertainment destination for young adults 18-34.'
