Wireless Technology MR Service Launched

US provider ABI Research has launched the 'Short-Range Wireless Research Service', which includes research reports, market updates and access to analysts for insight and interpretation, all focused on the converging technologies surrounding short-range wireless connectivity.

According to ABI, 'the uptake of one technology can no longer be viewed in isolation from its effects on the use of others... The evolution of communications networks, and the convergence between fixed and mobile technologies, mean that devices support more usage scenarios, have greater functionality, and must connect to a variety of other devices in user-friendly and efficient ways.'

Principal Analyst Stuart Carlaw says the analysis presented in the Service will reveal the symbiotic relationships between some connectivity solutions, and contrast them to those areas in which they will compete with each other. 'The short-range wireless market will evolve to a point at which it is no longer appropriate to assess the total market opportunity by the penetration of a single technology, such as Bluetooth. New service clusters will drive new usage scenarios and further develop old ones.'

The Service also profiles the user groups and usage scenarios that are driving growth in the market, and promises to map shipments of the relevant devices to user populations and usage scenarios. Technologies covered include Bluetooth, UWB, NFC, Wi-Fi, and ZigBee. In addition to reports and analyst input, the service includes a forecast database and access to the firm's existing ABI Insights publications.

ABI Research is based in New York and is online at www.abiresearch.com .
