Senior Promotions at Abt Associates

US provider Abt Associates has this week announced three senior promotions. CFO David Loeser becomes Senior VP, while Deborah Klein Walker and Carlos Carrazana are raised to Vice President status.

Loeser joined Abt in 1996 as Vice President and CFO. He worked previously for four years at economic and business consultants Charles River Associates as VP of Finance and Administration, and Treasurer. Earlier, he spent time at executive development firm Harbridge House and as a Certified Public Accountant and supervisor on the audit staff at Coopers & Lybrand. He has a B.A. in Economics from the University of Rochester and an MBA from the University of Southern California, and has taught at the adjunct faculty at the Babson College Graduate School of Business.

Wendell Knox, Abt Associates CEO, says Loeser has 'strengthened all aspects of our financial operations and has put us in a position to grow our company in the years ahead.'

Dr. Walker joined Abt Associates' Domestic Health Division in 2004 and has worked on projects involving maternal and child health, infectious diseases, and obesity. In 2005 she was elected President of the American Public Health Association. She previously spent 15 years with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, at the same time holding lecturing positions at Boston University School of Public Health and the Harvard School of Public Health. She graduated with High Honor and Great Distinction from Mount Holyoke College, and holds both a Master of Education and a Doctorate in Human Development at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.

Carrazana joined Abt's International Health Division in 2003 and has been responsible for the management and technical oversight of a portfolio of global and bilateral health care projects, as well as leading the company's international private health care sector expansion efforts. Prior to this, he worked for Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu's emerging markets division as Director of the Summa Foundation, and as a Director at the University of Miami School of Medicine. He began his career in banking, working in the Capital Markets Division of First Union Bank (now Wachovia), at Riggs National Bank (now PNC) and at Chase Manhattan Bank, with a focus on Latin America in all three roles. He has an M.P.H. in Epidemiology from the University of Miami School of Medicine, an MBA in International Finance from American University's Kogod School of Business, and a B.S. in Business Economics from Bentley College.

Abt Associates provides services to a range of government clients and international organizations, as well as private sector firms.
