G & S Launches Life Sciences Division
US-based pharma and healthcare provider G & S Research has established a new division, G & S Discovery, to focus exclusively on life sciences. Mark Walker, who recently joined the firm as a VP, will head up the new unit.
G & S says the life science research supply market has become increasingly aggressive over the past five years, with suppliers increasingly adopting the same tools used by leading pharmaceutical companies. However, life science supply companies have a unique set of market circumstances and information needs with rapid product development and a highly fragmented marketplace, plus tighter MR budgets than other healthcare businesses.
Walker, a life sciences veteran, moves from top five manufacturer Invitrogen Corporation where he was Director of US Sales, responsible for academic and government markets. His 10-year spell at the company saw growth in annual US sales from $10m to $200m. Previously, he worked for Eli Lilly for seven years in positions includes sales, marketing, and market research. He currently serves as a board member for the Indianapolis chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, a non-profit organization.
According to Dr. Gary Schwebach, a founding principal of G & S Research, the development of the new division recognises 'a growing need for life science supply companies to take a more disciplined approach to business strategy... The life science industry is entering a period of increased competition—with fewer dollars for promotion—which means there is less room than ever for missteps.'
