New Registries Leader for Abt
US healthcare researcher Abt Associates has hired health economist Mason W. Russell to head up its growing registries practice.
Russell, who has more than 20 years of industry and consulting experience, becomes Abt's Executive Director, Registries, Pricing & Reimbursement and will also join Chris Pashos in directing its Health Economic Research and Quality of Life Evaluation Services (HERQuLES) team.
As a specialist in registry design and operations, global pricing and reimbursement strategy, and economic evaluation, including cost of illness and cost effectiveness analysis, Russell's work has encompassed European and Australasian market trends as well as North American. His work is frequently referenced in leading peer-reviewed medical and health policy journals, such as the American Journal of Cardiology, the American Journal of Public Health, and Neurology.
He worked previously as CEO of White Mountain Health Services; Director, Global Commercial Strategy for Biogen Idec; and in senior research positions for Boston Health Economics, Medical Research International, and Policy Analysis Inc. Before entering the commercial sector, he was Assistant Professor of Economics at Bentley College and Lecturer in Economics at Boston University. He has an M.A. in political economy from Boston University.
Steve Fosburg, the company's Sr. VP of Clinical Research Studies, says Russell's skills, experience, and consultative approach make him a natural fit for Abt. 'In addition, his many years of experience in designing and directing innovative pharmacoeconomic research add considerable depth to our world-class capabilities in this arena.'
Abt Associates works on social, economic, and technological policy issues; international development; clinical trials and registries; and business problems, for government and commercial clients. It has a staff of over 1,000 in offices on five continents, and is online at www.abtassociates.com .
