TNS Buy Leads to Shopper Insights Launch
TNS has acquired US shopping behaviour specialist Sorensen Associates for an undisclosed sum, and created a global practice, TNS Retail and Shopper Insights.
Sorensen styles itself 'The In-store Research Company®', and focuses on understanding shopper behaviour, motivations and perceptions at the point of purchase. TNS says the acquisition 'significantly strengthens the group's shopper research operations and makes it a world leader in this field' and that the new division answers 'growing demand for more sophisticated shopper research and consultancy services that can be delivered consistently across multiple markets'.
The buy completes the global group's coverage of the 'shopper journey', from before they enter a store to after they have selected a product for purchase. The new division will draw together TNS's custom operations and Worldpanel continuous measurement expertise along with that of Sorensen.
CEO David Lowden says many large companies are forming 'shopper insight' groups and are dissatisfied with currently available offerings from providers. 'Sorensen has created excellent tools for the US market and we have gained a talented business head - Herb Sorensen, Founder & CEO - whose expertise will be of considerable benefit'.
