GfK to Track Shady Dealing
GfK has launched a new monthly panel to track sales of sunglasses across Britain; a market which was worth £19.1 million between Jan - April 2007, with April accounting for 44% of these sales.
Data is being gathered in 6,196 outlets to provide retailers, buyers and manufacturers with an understanding of the sunglasses market. The panel also examines how independent opticians differentiate themselves from chain opticians, and which designer brands account for greater spend.
GfK Account Manager, Marina Turner, explained that this April was the sunniest since records began, and consequently sunglasses sales have boomed: 'During April, 7 pairs of sunglasses were bought through an optician every single minute and with this summer looking to be the hottest on record, retailers can be sure to expect scorching sales.'
Initial research has shown that an average temperature rise of 4 degrees during the month, equated to an additional £5 million in revenue for British opticians.
The GfK Group has more than 130 subsidiaries located in 70 countries with a current total of around 7,900 employees. The firm's web site is at www.gfk.com .
