Growth for Nielsen, Rapid Growth for Ipsos

Ipsos and Nielsen have reported results for the first half of the year. Ipsos increased revenue by 8.7% over the year earlier period to EUR 443.1m, while Nielsen's grew from $2,019m to $2,241m.

Ipsos' figures show organic growth of 10% - this is the second time since Ipsos floated in 1999 that the firm has achieved double-digit organic growth in a half-year period (www.mrweb.com/drno/news6790.htm ). Advertising research is the fastest-growing business area, reporting organic revenue growth of 16%, followed closely by customer relationship management research which grew by 13% and opinion & social research which was up 11%.

Ipsos defines business areas of which marketing research is the largest, accounting for 47% of total revenues. Media research, having seen revenues decline in the first quarter, saw business volumes start rising again in the second. Acquisitions in Latin America and Turkey helped to boost revenues by 2.4%. Ipsos also announced the acquisition of Australian company Eureka last month (www.mrweb.com/drno/news7006.htm ) - figures from this will be consolidated from 1 July 2007. The firm says it believes that 2007 is likely to be one of its best and most profitable years of the decade.

Nielsen grew second quarter revenues to $1,169m from last year's $1,016m. Operating income in the period was $100m compared with pro forma operating income of $45m in Q2 2006. Second quarter 2007 results were negatively impacted by $36 million in restructuring costs and $9 million in Nielsen//NetRatings deal related costs and payments in connection with compensation agreements and recruiting expense for corporate executives (www.mrweb.com/drno/news6955.htm ).
