Microsoft Beta-Tests 'Gatineau' Analytics Service
Microsoft has begun beta testing its new Google Analytics competitor, intended to offer web publishers and adCenter advertisers advanced tools for measuring how people found their sites, and their behaviour once there.
Codenamed Project Gatineau, the service includes demographic segmentation to allow comparisons between the online behaviour of men and women or different age groups; plus link tracking, campaign overview, ROI, funnel and conversion reports.
Based on technology created by Microsoft-owned web analytics provider DeepMetrix, after a year in development, Microsoft is now accepting applications for beta testing in the US. A $5 charge is being levied to non-adCenter account holders.
In a letter inviting subscribers to sign up to the test, the Project Gatineau team claimed: 'With your help, we can build the best free web analytics service for your needs.' Information about how to subscribe to the beta test is online at http://advertising.microsoft.com/microsoft-adcenter-gatineau .
In May, Microsoft announced its plans to acquire Internet ad agency aQuantive to provide its adCenter clients with insight on which ads and keywords are most profitable (www.mrweb.com/drno/news6819.htm ).
