Cable Takes First MR Steps with Quantum Buy
US 'shell' corporation Cable & Co Worldwide (CCWW) has reached a deal to purchase Quantum Research Services - which currently trades as Aspen Media and Market Research - as the first stage in its plan to build a market research group.
Headquartered in Colorado, Quantum collects consumer data in the telecoms, automotive, healthcare, banking and cable sectors and also provides a B2B circulation and research service. For the year ended 30 June 2007, the firm had sales of $5.4m with an adjusted EBITDA of $405,000.
CCWW's only current operating business is LifeHealthCare; a company which develops over-the-counter, non-prescriptive dental care products. However, in July the company announced
plans to retain the health care business as a separate entity, and focus on buying marketing and opinion research companies under the new name of Marketing & Research Corp (www.mrweb.com/drno/news7050.htm ).
At the time, President Gary Stein said the restructure would allow the company to negotiate finance and acquire companies in the marketing and research sector. This would include firms that provide data collection facilities for both corporations and government agencies, including those that conduct opinion, political and overnight polling.
Completion of the acquisition of Quantum is anticipated in or around January 2008. The research firm is online at www.aspenonnet.com.
