Barns Takes Nielsen China Role
Mitch Barns has been named President of Nielsen Greater China. He will report directly to Nielsen Chairman and CEO David Calhoun, and will serve on the group's Executive Committee.
In his new role, Barns will oversee the company's operations across China as well as in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and will take charge of a number of offerings and partnerships in the People's Republic, including the expansion and integration of Nielsen's Media services and the introduction of new Online and Mobile services.
Only in June (www.mrweb.com/drno/news6875.htm ), Barns was named Global President of Nielsen's consumer segmentation tools, Homescan, Spectra and Loyalty, following the departure of Robert Tomei to TNS. He was previously Global President of BASES and Analytic Consulting. He joined the group in 1997 as part of the client service organization with BASES, and led the globalization of the unit in Europe, Latin America and Asia-Pacific. Prior to Nielsen, Barns worked at Procter & Gamble, where he ran Advertising Research and New Product Forecasting operations.
Calhoun describes Barns as 'a truly global executive' who 'brings both a broad perspective and a deep understanding of China's role in the world economy, and will work closely with other senior leaders in the region to enhance Nielsen's position in this promising market.'
