New CMO for Safeway
Supermarket chain Safeway has appointed Diane Dietz as Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, overseeing the marketing, merchandising, manufacturing and distribution functions.
Dietz joins after a 19-year career with Proctor and Gamble (P&G), where she most recently ran one of the company's largest business units, managing marketing, market research, sales, sourcing, manufacturing, quality control, supply chain, R&D, and HR functions. Before this, Dietz ran a range of brand management and marketing functions across P&G. She has a BA in Marketing & Economics from Northern Illinois University.
In her new role, Dietz reports to Safeway's Chairman, President and CEO Steven Burd, who comments: 'Diane's broad experience running one of the most valuable brand portfolios in the world, and her demonstrated ability to drive sales at retail are well-suited for her responsibilities at Safeway.'
Safeway operates 1,740 stores in the US and Canada and had annual sales of $42bn in 2007.
