Hey! Nielsen: Research Giant Bales Out
Social networking site 'Hey! Nielsen' is to close. The research giant says it is 'working on a new consumer site' but has not yet given details of the reason for the closure or the nature of the new offering.
The site offered users the option to discuss and rate television programmes, films and music, and added feedback to that from sites like its Billboard and Hollywood Reporter, to produce a 'Hey! Nielsen' score.
The current site is expected to disappear in the next few days. A note on its blog tells users: 'We thank you for sharing your passionate opinions with us over the last year. Your feedback was not only insightful, but also a valuable component in several research projects at Nielsen.'
Nielsen's communications department apparently saw the site as a source of feedback about the firm's products and services, as well as a chance for viral promotion and a learning experience in social networking. it was trialled last year but only formally activated at the beginning of this year, concurrent with Super Bowl XLII. At the present time it has around 175,000 members.
