Nokia Makes Marketing and Research Cuts
Mobile phone giant Nokia has announced it will cut around 600 jobs - 450 are to go in its Market unit and 130 in its Nokia Research Centers. The firm's Turku research facility in Finland will close.
The Turku work will be transferred to the company's Salo-based research center by the end of January 2009. The announcement follows news of third quarter losses and a fall in its market share. Nokia aims to focus more attention on the potential for its products in emerging markets.
The extent to which MR jobs are included is not currently clear.
Senior VP of Human Resources Juha äkräs says the company wants to remain 'close to its customers' and adds that 'our aim is to find alternative work within Nokia for as many employees as possible.'
