US Energy Consultancy Bought

Sonoma, California-based energy research firm RLW Analytics, has been acquired by energy and utility consulting business KEMA, which has North American headquarters in Burlington, Massachusetts and global headquarters in Arnhem, the Netherlands.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

RLW, established more than two decades ago, provides analytical, engineering, load and market research consulting via 50 employees in five US states. It was founded in 1989 by Roger Wright, a professor at the University of Michigan, and Curt Puckett, a researcher at Consumers Power Co. in Michigan. From January, current CEO Puckett will join KEMA's Dr. Miriam Goldberg as co-leader of the Sustainable Market Strategies practice, while Wright will remain a senior advisor at KEMA, and will play a key role in the transition.

KEMA President and MD Hugo van Nispen comments: 'Combining the scale and world class of RLW's capabilities related to building energy performance with KEMA's existing sustainable market capabilities creates an unparalleled one-stop forum for our clients.' He adds: 'Managing how and how much electricity we use is a critical factor of the sustainable energy future equation. We're experiencing strong growth in market demand for our unique expertise in this area.'

KEMA, founded in 1927 as a laboratory for the Dutch electric power industry, employs 1,600 professionals in 20 countries and provides business and technical consulting, operational support, measurement and inspection, testing and certification for the energy and utility industry.
