Information Industry Tipped to Beat Recession
US-based research specialist Outsell says the information and publishing industry should grow steadily this year, by about 3% from $400bn in 2008 to $412bn in 2009.
Among the 30 'companies to watch' highlighted in Information Industry Outlook 2009: No Guts No Glory, MR firms MarketTools and ZoomInfo join a diverse group of well known names including Apple, Google, Elsevier, Huffington Post, LinkedIn, CNN, Thomson Reuters and the British Medical Journal.
'The information industry grows fairly consistently, behaving like a portfolio of securities because it is made up of 12 segments that all behave differently,' according to Anthea Stratigos, Outsell's co-founder and CEO. 'Some are feeling pain from the economy, doubly so if they are operating with obsolete business or delivery models. Other information providers, such as those specializing in market research, healthcare or compliance, are somewhat recession proof or behave counter-cyclically in downturns.'
The report strikes a balance between warnings against 'the myth that ad spending will fund all things web' and against 'knee-jerk reactions to the crisis du jour.'
Based in Burlingame, CA, USA and London, UK, the company is online at www.outsellinc.com .
