Television Group Appoints Nielsen Research VP
In the US, Madison Avenue research veteran David Marans has left Nielsen IAG to join A&E Television Networks (AETN) as VP of Research and Insights, where he will oversee programming and ad sales research.
AETN is a joint venture of The Hearst Corporation, Disney-ABC Television Group and NBC Universal. Marans joins with a 25-year career in the advertising and media industries. He joined IAG Research (acquired by Nielsen last year) in 2005 as Executive VP with responsibility for integrating the firm's viewer response data into clients' planning and valuation process. Most recently, he has been credited with establishing a system for measuring viewer engagement.
Prior to this, Marans spent five years at Mindshare, joining when it was set up by parent J. Walter Thompson where he worked for the previous 12 years - latterly as Media Research Director.
In his new role, Marans will report to Mel Berning, AETN Executive Vice President, who comments: 'David is one of the smartest and most innovative research experts working in media. He will create tremendous value for us and our advertisers with his broad experience in all phases of solution-selling and creative research insights.'
Last year, AETN hired Rosanne Lo as Director of Marketing.
