Finnish shopper and visitor analytics specialist RapidBlue Solutions has been granted an EU-wide patent for profiling consumers based on their historical and current movements, gathered anonymously using radio frequency technologies.
The Helsinki-based firm - led by CEO Gavin Weigh (pictured) - uses sensors placed in relevant retail locations to collect real-time shopper movement data from consumers' mobile devices. This data generates metrics and analytics to uncover how long consumers spend in an environment, how often they visit a location, and what time of day has the greatest potential.
The technology generates consumer profiles for retailers and commercial property owners, which can then be integrated with RapidBlue's existing shopper analytics. In addition, it offers retailers an understanding of the impact of their marketing and in-store actions on specific consumer groups visiting the retail site.
The firm says it aims to win many more patents relating to the provision of analytics from location data.
