Comscore has expanded its box office measurement service to west and southern Africa, providing data for nine African countries including South Africa, and Nigeria where the film industry is known as 'Nollywood'.
Comscore's proprietary systems deliver box office results - including weekend estimates and attendance numbers - to help global film exhibitors and distributors measure and grow movie viewership. The firm's PostTrak solution measures all widely-released films during their opening and second weekends, while reporting on moviegoers' sources of awareness about the movie, the primary reason for attending, and the most likely means of communicating about the film.
With the expansion in Africa, Comscore box office measurement will capture more than 95% of all revenue and admissions in each of the nine new countries, described by Comscore as 'previously underreported territory'. Jim Zak (pictured), SVP of Theatrical, comments: 'As the international box office continues to grow in importance for the industry, Comscore is giving our partners the valued ability to leverage audience insights from a massive, and relatively untapped, key emerging market'.
