US retail behemoth Walmart is to extend its Luminate insights solution outside the US, with the ambition of turning its Walmart Data Ventures division into 'a global leader in insights and analytics'.
Luminate grew out of a collaboration with dunnhumby in 2021, and uses the firm's first-party data to generate insights for the retailer, and enhance the customer experience with more personalized offerings. Walmart then bought Volt Systems, in 2022, extending the offer to store operators and primary service providers with on-demand visibility to merchandising resources helping to ensure customers can find the products they want.
The Luminate platform will be rolled out in Walmex stores in Mexico now, and in Walmart Canada later this year. As in the US, the launch will be phased with the Shopper Behavior tool available first, then Channel Performance and Customer Perception. The company notes: 'Since we launched Walmart Luminate, we’ve successfully aided in optimizing retail strategies - from product assortment to product development - leveling the playing field for suppliers of all sizes. Today, 90% of Walmart's largest suppliers have signed up for a Walmart Luminate Charter subscription, and some of our smaller suppliers account for approximately 50% of our total subscriptions'.
