US public opinion polling firm Gallup is opening an office in Nairobi, Kenya to focus on media, market and social research.
The new operation will be led by Bob Tortora, the firm's Principal Scientist, Chief Methodologist, and Regional Research Director for Sub-Saharan Africa.
Tortora is also credited with designing the Gallup Panel which studies socioeconomic and welfare outcomes of ordinary citizens in various countries - particularly in Africa - to find out how they feel about their economy, their local governments, and their livelihoods.
In his expanded role, Tortora and his team will compete against agencies such as Steadman-Synovate and Infotra, which currently conduct social research in East Africa.
Gallup, which has studied human nature and behavior for more than 70 years, has subsidiary operations in more than 20 countries and is online at www.gallup.com .
