Platform Promises More Complex Mobile Surveys

September 18 2009

Mobile survey technology provider Techneos Systems has launched SODA, a survey platform which works by downloading applications to mobile phones to run when they are offline, and connects to a wireless network as required to fetch projects and submit data.

Techneos says the connect-as-required approach gives SODA major advantages over survey tools that use Short Messaging Service (SMS) or mobile web browsers. The system provides real-time results to relatively sophisticated market research on a wide range of mobile phones, including Java-enabled phones from Research in Motion (Blackberry), Nokia and other leading manufacturers.

A patent-pending solution, SODA enables clients to automate traditional research methods such as interviewing and mystery shopping, and newer approaches such as mobile research panels and customer engagement initiatives.

The firm says the system builds on more than a decade of experience putting complex surveys on mobile devices and provides 'the entire infrastructure required to create, deploy and manage multi-lingual wireless applications'.

CEO Dave King says the system has the potential to change the research landscape: 'As people become harder to reach using traditional research methods, the SODA Mobile Access Platform offers an effective alternative for measuring public opinion, by reaching people when and where their feedback is most relevant: at the point of experience.'

Founded in 1995, Techneos Systems Inc. provides mobile data collection capabilities to MR firms and end clients in over fifty countries, and supports more than 200 languages. Software works with mobile phones, PDAs, netbooks and other mobile devices and can be licensed or bought as a hosted software-as-a-service offering.

The firm's web site is at www.techneos.com .
