Western Wats, the Utah-based data collection company, has closed its call center in Wayne, Nebraska, at a cost of around 50 part-time jobs.
This is the company's second closure in the state in the past eighteen months. Western Wats was among the largest employers in Wayne. A marketing spokeswoman said that the company was still growing and that the closure is part of a consolidation of its smaller operations into larger call centers.
Western Wats was also in the news recently when it paid $500,000 to settle charges for child labor law violations, following a Department of Labor (DOL) investigation.
The company is online at www.westernwats.com .
