Chairman and founder of MORI Sir Robert Worcester has been appointed President of the Institute of Business Ethics (IBE) in the UK.
The IBE is a registered charity, founded in 1986 to promote, study and apply ethical standards in the management and conduct of industry and business.
Worcester succeeds Sir Peter Walters, now non-executive director of Nomura International and formerly chairman of BP, who has served as IBE President since 1994.
US-native Worcester began his career at McKinsey & Company and then Opinion Research Corporation (ORC) before relocating to the UK in 1965 to form Market & Opinion Research International (MORI) - originally a joint venture between ORC and National Opinion Polls.
Following the firm's sale to Ipsos in 2005, Worcester became Chairman of the Ipsos Public Affairs Research Advisory Board and an International Director of Ipsos. He was subsequently named a Senior Advisor to Ipsos MORI.
Among his many outside interests, Worcester is Chancellor of the University of Kent and a Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
He is also a Freeman of the City of London, and was made an Honorary Knight Commander of The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2004 in recognition of his services to political, social and economic research. He was knighted the following year, after becoming a British citizen.
IBE Chairman Chris Moorhouse commented: 'Sir Robert Worcester has given excellent support and encouragement to the Institute as a member of its advisory council. I am delighted that his advice will continue to be available to us in his new role.'
