Carrigan Elected as IAB Chairman
February 2 2011
In the US, the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) has elected IDG Communications CEO Bob Carrigan as its new Chairman.
Founded in 1996, the IAB educates marketers, agencies, media companies and the wider business community about the value of interactive advertising. Carrigan has served on its Board of Directors for five years, and has been a member of the Executive Committee since last year.
As Chairman, he will lead the IAB in its pursuit of six strategic objectives in 2011:
- 'making measurement make sense'
- 'building brands online'
- 'protecting privacy'
- 'data demystification'
- the launch of the 'Mobile Marketing Center of Excellence', and
- 'supply chain simplification'.
He takes over the role from David Moor, Chairman and founder of 24/7 Real Media, who will head the Search Committee to find a new CEO for the organization, following the departure of
Randall Rothenberg last month.
Carrigan began his career as an intern with technology analyst and events company IDG in 1987, before leaving to serve in sales management roles at Digital News and PC World. After this, he became SVP e-Commerce and Advertising at Internet start-up Spinner (an IDG portfolio company that was acquired by AOL). Then in 2003, he returned to IDG as President and CEO of Computerworld, and in 2008, he was
promoted to the post of CEO of IDG Communications Worldwide.
'After 18 months as Chairman of IAB, six months longer than the expected term, I am pleased to pass the torch to Bob Carrigan,' states Moore. 'Bob is a recognized leader, with a firm commitment to the IAB, and I am confident he will bring a strong vision to the organization as it continues to be a force of change in our industry.'
