Nokia has announced plans to acquired real-time predictive analytics specialist Medio Systems, which it will integrate with its location intelligence firm HERE. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
HERE combines maps with cloud technology to provide real-time location recommendations across devices including smartphones, tablets and wearables. Last month, Nokia expanded HERE through the acquisition of Finnish mapping start-up Desti, which uses artificial intelligence and natural language processing to help consumers find the items they are looking for.
Medio's platform measures users and their behavior, uses algorithms to predict their actions, and delivers real-time recommendations and promotions. Adding its 'smart data' to HERE will allow the Nokia firm to create contextual maps and location services, and provide personalized and predictive experiences to consumers and businesses based on their location and requirements.
Michael Halbherr (pictured), CEO of HERE, explains: 'We are entering the age of what I call cognitive mapping, in which maps will understand their environment and anticipate people's intent in order to deliver interactive and smart location experiences. We plan to extend Medio's talent and technology that analyzes millions of connected devices and billions of interactions on the go, to strengthen our ability to deliver personalized maps and location services.'
