In New York, Nielsen is promoting Steve Hasker to the position of Global President and Chief Operating Officer from January 1st. He takes over the COO role from Brian West, who announced his resignation last month.
Hasker (pictured) joined the company as President, Media Product Leadership and Advertiser Solutions in 2009, from McKinsey & Co. where he was a Partner in the Global Media, Entertainment and Information practice. He worked for McKinsey for eleven years, advising companies in the TV, mobile telecoms, syndicated information, filmed entertainment, sports and online ad sectors. Earlier, he spent five years in financial roles in the US, Russia and Australia.
Already overseeing Nielsen's US Media business and the product teams for both the consumer and media businesses, Hasker will now have added responsibility for all commercial activities across the company's Watch and Buy segments globally. He replaces West, who is leaving after nearly nine years with the firm.
CEO Mitch Barns said of the promotion: 'Steve has made significant and crucial contributions to our business - the most recent of which is his stewardship of our Total Audience framework. His ability to look across a landscape and understand not only the complexity but also the opportunity is key to our business and that of our clients'.
