In the US, the IAB Technology Laboratory (IAB Tech Lab) has hired Alanna Gombert for its newly created position of Deputy General Manager and Vice President, Technology & Ad Operations, working with the IAB team to guide the ad tech research and development consortium.
Run by trade association the IAB (Interactive Advertising Bureau), the lab is tasked with producing and helping companies implement global technical standards and solutions for the digital media and ad industries. The lab manages the Open Video Viewability initiative, focused on building single open source technology for measuring video ad viewability that enables measurement of the Media Rating Council (MRC) viewable impression standard for video advertising. Last month, the lab launched an app called the MRAID Ads SDK Tester, through which users can test ad creative across multiple ad software development kits.
Gombert (pictured) joins after running her own New York City-based digital media consulting agency, and having previously worked for Omnicom as MD of Digital Investment. Prior to this, she was Head of Digital Sales and Strategy at Condé Nast, where she founded digital media trading platform CatalystDesk; and she worked for ad optimization platform Admeld (acquired by Google in 2011), online ad exchange Right Media (acquired by Yahoo! in 2011), Nielsen, DoubleClick, and JPMorgan Chase.
In her new role, Gombert will work with Scott Cunningham, IAB Tech Lab General Manager and IAB SVP Technology and Ad Operations, who comments: 'As founder and co-chair of the IAB Programmatic Council, Alanna has a longstanding history of collaborative leadership in the industry. Her intellect and energy will be incredibly valuable to the IAB Tech Lab, and she is exactly the type of dynamic market leader whom we want on our team.'
