In the US, the IAB Technology Laboratory (IAB Tech Lab) has promoted Alanna Gombert to the position of General Manager, replacing founder Scott Cunningham who is leaving to work on projects in the commercial sector and offer consultancy services.
Run by trade association the IAB (Interactive Advertising Bureau), the lab produces and helps companies implement global technical standards and solutions for the digital media and ad industries. The lab manages the Open Video Viewability initiative, focused on building technology for measuring video ad viewability in accordance with the relevant Media Rating Council (MRC) standard. In addition, it offers access to an app called the MRAID Ads SDK Tester, through which users can test ad creative across multiple ad software development kits.
Gombert (pictured) joined in February as Deputy General Manager and Vice President, Technology & Ad Operations, working with the IAB team to guide the ad tech research and development consortium. She previously ran her own digital media consulting agency, and before that worked for Omnicom as MD of Digital Investment and as Head of Digital Sales and Strategy at Condé Nast. She has also worked for ad optimization platform Admeld (acquired by Google in 2011), online ad exchange Right Media (acquired by Yahoo! in 2011), Nielsen, DoubleClick, and JPMorgan Chase.
In addition to the GM role, Gombert becomes the IAB's Senior Vice President for Technology and Ad Operations - all effective from 1st July. The organisation's President and CEO Randall Rothenberg comments: 'In only two years, the IAB Tech Lab has established itself as the digital media and advertising industry's central organization for the development of standards. I am confident Alanna and the Tech Lab team will be able to continue to build on the global technical advancements and creative solutions Scott helped inaugurate'.
