According to German-language sports industry news site SPONSORS, Nielsen is planning to buy sports broadcast measurement specialist Repucom for more than $100m.
Repucom's sports sponsorship evaluation offer includes the measurement of brand activity at events and the performance of rival brands across the sponsorship inventory. In 2013, the firm acquired Milan-based Immagine & Sport, which provides a range of market research and media ROI analysis services, as well as target audience profiling.
Nielsen partnered with Repucom seven years ago, to analyze content and measure viewers' exposure to sponsored media during televised sporting events; with the service replacing Nielsen's former Scorecard offering.
SPONSORS said Repucom had declined to comment about the current rumours, while Nielsen gave the stock reply: 'As part of our strategy, we evaluate many investment opportunities and we do not comment until they have been completed'.
