Truth, Andy Dexter's new insight consultancy, has opened for business, with 'significant backing' from a private investment partner, College Group. Truth has an initial team of four partners including Leanne Tomasevic and Toby Matthewson who joined in February.
Truth aims for both organic growth and acquisitions. 'We want to build this using a partnership style model, rather than going the traditional institutional finance route' says Dexter. 'Our goal is to invest in new approaches and businesses that seek to change the way market insight is delivered to the real commercial benefit of clients. These could be either start-ups or more established businesses.'
College will take a strategic stake in the new business. Dexter, who describes the start-up as 'the beginning of an adventure', says College and Truth 'share a vision of building for the long term, on a partnership basis'. He told DRNO: 'This initiative is privately funded, not via VC or institutional finance – in other words a partnership structure, and a different business model from how these things have typically worked in our market in the past.'
Dexter is a Fellow of the Market Research Society who set up, and grew, Incepta Marketing Intelligence (now Illuminas) to UK Top 10 status, gaining Marketing Magazine's Research Agency of the Year Award 2004. Dexter stepped down as CEO in March 2006 to develop other business interests.
College Group is the owner of communications consultancy College Hill. Truth, whose strapline is 'maximum insight, minimum data', is online at www.truth.ms .
