Rugby union is very popular in Samoa and the national team nicknamed the Manu Samoa, is consistently competitive against teams from vastly more populous nations. Samoa have competed at every Rugby World Cup since 1991, and have made the quarter finals in 1991, 1995 and the second round of the 1999 world cup.

Samoa, officially the Independent State of Samoa (formerly known as Western Samoa), is a country governing the western part of the Samoan Islands archipelago in the South Pacific Ocean.
The country is about halfway between Hawai'i and New Zealand in the Polynesian region of the Pacific Ocean. The two large islands of Upolu and Savai'i account for 99% of the total land area; there are eight small islets. The main island of Upolu is home to nearly three-quarters of Samoa's population.The country gained its independence from New Zealand on 1st January 1962.

If we're wrong, please get in touch!The economy of Samoa has traditionally been dependent on development aid, private family remittances from overseas, and agricultural exports. Only 12% of the total population in Samoa is engaged in formal paid employment. Two thirds of the labour force is absorbed by "subsistence" village agriculture, with the agricultural and fishing industries accounting for around 15% of GDP. Industry accounts for around 25% of GDP, with manufacturing dominated by a Japanese-owned company, Yazaki, which produces automobile electrical systems and is the largest single employer in Samoa. The service sector accounts for around 60% of GDP with tourism the largest single activity. Increased arrivals from New Zealand and Australia have contributed to the sector's 18% annual growth rate in the year ending April 2007.
