Noah news is good news: Armenia is prominent among the countries who lay claim to be the final resting place of Noah's Ark. The Ararat Mountains mentioned in the Bible, although technically in Turkey, are iconic for the Armenians and the name Armenia is derived from Hayk their great patriarch who is believed to have been the great-great-grandson of Noah. Many expeditions, some academic and some seriously not academic, have tried to find the remains of the Ark, so far with no success.

Overview of Trade and Industry

According to the CIA World Factbook: Armenia exported $USD 714m of produce in 2009 - a mix of pig iron, unwrought copper, nonferrous metals, diamonds, mineral products, foodstuffs and energy. Their main export partners were Russia, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Georgia, Bulgaria and the USA. Imports in the same year cost $USD 2.72bn, consisting of gas, petroleum, tobacco products, foodstuffs and diamonds, mostly from Russia, China, Ukraine, Turkey, Germany, the USA and Iran.

Since independence, Armenia's history has been marred by the outbreak of armed conflict between Karabakh Armenians and Azerbaijan, which effectively crippled Armenia's economy. In recent years, Armenia still faces many hardships - but is improving and has made the switch to a full market economy.
